New
Playground hits the Spot! - by Andy O. and Benjamin E. of the
Dragons, July 6, 2001
The new playground on the blacktop has little kids cheering around Purchase
Day Camp. It has 8 slides, straight and bumpy. One of the funniest activities
at the new playground is the rock wall. The rock wall appears to be
hard to climb but it is very easy. Other fun activities that are in
the new playground are baseball tic-tac-toe, a fun house mirror, a very
cool dinosaur skeleton (that you can touch) under the rock wall, and
an ABC chart for younger kids to learn. The new playground is as safe
as it is fun. The playground is mostly plastic so you can't get any
splinters. The playground is so fun, even the adults like it. "I love
the new playground!," says Jim Kelly, Director. The new playground is
recommended for kids of all ages.
Crazy Hat Day!!
- by Ben P. of the Dragons, July 6, 2001
On Crazy Hat Day, some crazy people bring in some very crazy hats! Some
of the hats were funny, other hats were crazy, and some hats were even
historical! Some of the hats include army hats, jester hats, Viking
hats, tall hats, and baseball caps with funny things coming out of them.
Most of them were worn to represent something such as an Olympic hat,
worm by Matt G. of the Dragons, a soda dispenser worn by Davio C. of
the Serpents, and Mary L. of the Dolphins was wearing a clown hat. This
crazy and exciting day comes once every camp year. This year, Crazy
Hat Day was on Wednesday, June 27th 2001, during week one of Purchase
Day Camp.
New Archery Range
- by Matthew G. of the Dragons, July 6, 2001
Did you know that there is a brand new archery range? The new range
is behind the large ball field (now called Schweiger field). The new
instructor is Aaron Beitler. The range is larger due to a larger space
behind the field instead of next to the Challenge Course. The range
has new netting that has smaller holes, whch arrows have less of a chance
of passing through it. The targets are new also. The targets are now
circular and on a wooden tripod. The old ones were square and on the
ground.
There are new games besides
the usual target. This week you try to shoot at pictures of milk bottles.
The larger the picture, the lower the number of points. If you hit the
center of the target, or bullseye, you get a certificate. The certificates
are called out in the morning like hole in one certificates.
Red White and Blue Day
Party - by A.J. L. of the Dragons, July 6, 2001
On July 3, 2001, on Red White and Blue Day the Swans, Serpents, Flamingos
and Dragons all ate a deli lunch at the Schweiger Field
When
the four groups got there they ran on the lines for their food. All
four groups had wedges, lots of chips and free soda! Everyone ate fast
and some even wanted second helpings!
After that the counselors started
giving out free ice cream that had 1/2 vanilla and 1/2 chocolate and cookies!
On behalf of these four groups,
I would like to thank Mr. Kelly and Sue Franze and the counselors who
made this fun and special day happen.
