General Guidelines

Sign-in and Sign-out - Here's How it Works

All Community House participants will be required to sign-in and sign-out at our Main Hall Sign-In Board. Each child's name will be posted in alphabetical order (by last name) on the sign-in board. We feel it is extremely important to know for certain which children are on the premises daily.

When a participant arrives at the PCH, he/she goes immediately to the sign-in board, takes a pushpin and places it in the "in" column next to his/her name.

When a participant leaves the premises for home, he/she places the pushpin in the "out" column. Please do not put the pushpin in the container, as we count the tacks at day's end to determine the number of participants.

Coat and Book Bag Locations

All participants will be required to hang their coats and place other belongings in a specific area by age group. In an effort to help with the problem of lost items and the ability of children to find space for coats and book bags, etc., the PCH has provided specific areas for these items.
K and 1st Graders - in Main Hall on left or right of auditorium entrance
2nd Grade and Up - in upper Back Hall outside of inner-building library entrance (enter thru auditorium to exit door right, on side of stage)

Code of Behavior

All children utilizing the Purchase Community facilities will be held accountable for a code of behavior and are expected to:

  • Use proper language when dealing with peers and house staff.
  • Speak to staff in a respectful manner and tone.
  • Display good sportsmanship when engaged in athletic events and classes.
  • Use Community House equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Clean up after themselves by using recycling and trash receptables.
  • Follow all Community House posted rules and common sense rules of good behavior.

Individuals unable to support this code of behavior may be required to take a "time out", serve an in-office quiet time, or be temporarily suspended from attendance.

Participant Spending Money Envelope Policy

In an effort to avoid lost or stolen money we have a system where the children can leave money at the main hall desk in an envelope with their name on it. They can then get their money from the desk supervisor and put the unused money back in the envelope and store it at the desk. While the envelope system was started to prevent problems with money, it sometimes becomes a holding area where the children build up a small fortune. In an effort to limit misunderstandings and lost money, the following guidelines should be followed:

  • Only the person named on the envelope can access the envelope. NO SIBLINGS!!
  • Money in the envelope should not exceed $10.00 except on Friday nights when the snack bar is open.
    * Snack and Beverage Prices: Soda $1, Snapple $1, Bottled Water $1, Snacks $1

Recycling of Soda, Juice Cans and Water Bottles

In order to help the Purchase Community House recycling efforts, we ask all PCH participants to empty beverage cans and water bottles and place them in the recycling containers located in the building.

Afterschool Program Dismissal

In an effort to minimize traffic congestion and safety concerns during our Afterschool program dismissal, we ask parent cooperation with the following dismissal procedures.

    1. Please park your car in our main parking lot and ENTER THE BUILDING to pick up your child or car pool children. This procedure addresses two concerns. a) Children will not be entering the parking lot unattended. b) Cars will not be blocking the drive thru area.

    2. If the Main Parking Lot is full please park in: a) Lower Parking Lot after 5pm only (Entrance off Cottage Avenue). b) Library Lot after 5pm Only. PLEASE NOTE: The lower parking lot area is used for children's activities until 5pm on nice weather days and the library lot is used for library patron parking only until 5pm.

While these dismissal procedures do not address drop off concerns or extra parking space prior to 5pm, compliance should improve a difficult end of day situation.

DO'S & DON'TS OF DISMISSAL
  • Enter the parking lot at a very slow rate of speed.
  • Park your car in a designated parking space. (Areas with safety cones or yellow lines are not designated spaces).
  • Do not leave your car standing in a driving lane.
  • Do not leave your car with the motor running at any time.
  • Carefully back out of your parking space and proceed slowly out of the parking lot.

Children Released to Parent or Guardian Only

Children participating in Purchase Community, Inc. sponsored activities will be released to a parent or guardian ONLY. Children will not be allowed to leave the premises without a parent or guardian. Parents who are unable to pick up their child must make arrangements for their child to be picked up by another parent or guardian.

Inclement Weather Closing Policy

For information on weather related cancellations of afterschool classes and activities sponsored by the Purchase Community House, parents should call 949-2636 or check this web site after 2:00pm on Weekdays. A Purchase Community House staff member or a message will indicate whether the house is open or closed.

If the Harrison Schools are open and the Community House cancels afterschool activities, Purchase School will be notified at 2:00pm.

Parents should not assume that the PCH will follow the Harrison Schools or the Purchase Children's Center's decision on cancellations. The Purchase Community House bases its decisions on late afternoon weather and road conditions.

Annual Participation Fee

All participants in Purchase Community House programs are required to pay an Annual Participation Fee. The fee is $95 per child or $150 for a family of 2 or more children. This mandatory fee will be assessed when patrons first register, and will include our annual accident medical insurance for injuries sustained at the PCH.

The accident medical insurance policy provides medical expenses for an accidental injury sustained during Community House programs. There is a $5,000.00 maximum benefit per year. The $5,000.00 maximum benefit is primary medical expense coverage.
